The Marple Newtown Fightin' Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Unionville Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Unionville will be up against a hot Marple Newtown team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Fightin' Tigers put the hurt on Harriton with a sharp 16-4 win on Wednesday.
Ava Kelly looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Grace Corner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kaylen Hushen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Marple Newtown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Unionville never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Kennett on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Blue Demons. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Blue Demons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Peyton Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Brown was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI.
In other batting news, Unionville let Addison Smith and Gracie Brun run wild. Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brun went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Shannon Megill, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Marple Newtown's record is now 14-2. As for Unionville, their record now sits at 11-8.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marple Newtown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Unionville struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
