Basketball Recap: Winter Warriors vs. New Auburn Trojans
The Winter Warriors waltzed into their matchup on Friday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 85-82 win over New Auburn. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Winter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gunnar Greuel, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds. Greuel is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Curtis Thompson, who scored 19 points.
Winter's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 92.3 points per game. As for New Auburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
Coincidentally, Winter and the Trojans will both be playing the Panthers the next time they take the court. Winter will host the Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, while the Trojans will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
