Recap: Charleston Math & Science Riptide vs. Cross Trojans
The Charleston Math & Science Riptide suffered their biggest loss since November 17, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Cross, falling 72-40. Charleston Math & Science was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cross apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Charleston Math & Science lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyler Simmons. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Michael Williams was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Charleston Math & Science struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cross racked up 14 assists.
Jamez Way was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals for Cross. Way is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Ramsey, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Charleston Math & Science and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for Cross, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Charleston Math & Science won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lowcountry Leadership at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Lowcountry Leadership is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Cross, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Palmetto Scholars Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Palmetto Scholars Academy is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
