Softball Game Preview: Santo Wildcats vs. Ranger Bulldogs

The Santo Wildcats will challenge the Ranger Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Santo made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Graford, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Rabbits with a sharp 13-4 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wildcats have posted against the Rabbits since March 24, 2017.

Maddie Koonce made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Koonce was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Santo got a massive performance out of Kamryn Castillo, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Castillo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Myranda Cain, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5.

Santo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Ranger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Huckabay, falling 19-3. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly 16 runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Santo and bumps their season record up to 8-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Ranger, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Santo took their victory against Ranger in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
