Softball Recap: Sarasota Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Sarasota posted their closest victory since March 26th on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Riverview Sarasota Rams 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Sailors: when they faced off against the Rams back in March, they had to take a 7-6 loss.

Gemma Mulhollen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sommer Speers was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mady Pint, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Sarasota has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Riverview Sarasota, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 16-2.

Sarasota didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-5 loss against Parrish Community on the 15th. As for Riverview Sarasota, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-1 defeat against Bishop Verot on the 15th.
