Baseball Recap: Seventy-First Takes a Loss

Seventy-First had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-17 to make it four. They came up short against the Purnell Swett Rams, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Falcons couldn't push the score so high this time.

Seventy-First saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Melendez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. The Falcons are 4-1 when Melendez posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-16 otherwise.

As for Purnell Swett, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. The result was nothing new for Purnell Swett, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Purnell Swett's side, Grayson Brooks and Camden Hunt did most of the damage at the plate: Brooks went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hunt went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave Hunt a new career-high. Easton Oxendine was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
