Newaygo entered their tilt with Hesperia on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Panthers. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ruby Hughes paced Newaygo's offense, picking up seven kills. Hughes got some help from Grace Hughes and her 14 assists. Grace also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Amaya Lathrop, racking up two apiece.

Newaygo's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Hesperia, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Newaygo didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against Fremont on the 6th. As for Hesperia, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Grant on the 6th.
