Basketball Recap: Te'asia Briscoe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Purdue Polytechnic over Cathedral

Purdue Polytechnic lost against Cathedral back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Purdue Polytechnic Techies lost 65-42 to the Cathedral Fighting Irish. While losing is never fun, the Techies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 33rd).

Several Techies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Te'Asia Briscoe, who went 7 of 8 en route to 16 points along with three steals and three blocks. The game was Briscoe's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ja'Nyiah Rogers, who posted nine points.

Jaeda Wilson was a one-woman wrecking crew for Cathedral as she went 9 for 18 on her way to 23 points and five steals. Wilson has become a key player for Cathedral: the team is 10-4 when she posts at least three steals, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Beasley, who scored four points in addition to seven assists and seven steals.

Purdue Polytechnic's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Cathedral, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Purdue Polytechnic will challenge Tindley at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cathedral has already played their next match, a 48-43 victory against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard on the 17th.
