Recap: Pomona Panthers vs. Alameda Pirates
The Pomona Panthers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Alameda 50-22 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Pomona has managed all season.
Kendra Ritzmann continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Pomona's points. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Valenzuela, who scored eight points along with five steals and three blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Alameda lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lupita Solis. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with two steals.
Pomona has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Alameda, they bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Pomona will face off against Standley Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Standley Lake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pomona in Colorado (Standley Lake is ranked 39th, while Pomona is ranked 139th). As for Alameda, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evergreen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Evergreen has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
