South Medford extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-7 in the process. They lost 11-5 to the Roseburg Indians. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this contest were averaging 3.38 runs allowed.
South Medford got a good showing from Aliyah Gomez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Gomez a new career-low in walks (one).
On the hitting side, South Medford saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Butterfield, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Roseburg, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
On Roseburg's side, Jasmine Morales made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Morales has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Roseburg let Terra Singleton and Danika Opp run wild. Singleton went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Opp went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Opp a new career-high. Masyn Tabor also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Coming up, South Medford will welcome Sheldon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games the Irish have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Roseburg, they will square off against North Medford at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Black Tornado will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
