Basketball Recap: Heartland Takes a Loss

Heartland lost against Plaza Heights Christian Academy two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Heartland Mustangs received a blow as they fell 49-35 to Plaza Heights Christian Academy.

When it comes to explaining why Heartland lost, don't look at Kalei Hallam. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 15 on her way to 20 points and six rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Heartland's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Savannah Vazquez was another key player, putting up six points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Heartland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Plaza Heights Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Collier, who went 7 for 12 to rack up 16 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. With that strong performance, Collier is now averaging an impressive 2 blocks per game. Another player making a difference was Sydney Berry, who went 5 of 7 en route to 15 points and five boards.

Heartland's record is now 9-12. As for Plaza Heights Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Heartland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Plaza Heights Christian Academy, they have already played their next match, a 60-43 win against Applewood Christian on the 10th.
