Basketball Recap: Denver West Falls Despite Big Games from Alesha Munoz and Shadimond Bester

Denver West and Peak to Peak squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Denver West had to settle for second. They lost 51-28 to the Peak to Peak Pumas. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Pumas are ranked 77th).

Shadimond Bester and Alesha Munoz certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Bester posted eight points and six boards, while Munoz earned eight points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Bester a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%).

It was another big night for Alexandra Eschmeyer, who went 15-for-25 on her way to 37 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals for Peak to Peak. The matchup was Eschmeyer's 24th in a row with at least 15 points. Sydney Lewis was another key player, putting up no points and three steals.

Denver West has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. The win (which was Peak to Peak's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-6.

Denver West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Peak to Peak, they have already played their next game, a 47-41 loss against D'Evelyn on the 8th.
