League recap: Palmyra tops Mark Twain to extend winning streak

Palmyra added to the longest winning streak in Clarence Cannon this week by beating Mark Twain, 57-2. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Panthers.

Macon scaled the state rankings by moving to 112 from 145 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to move up by topping Boonville 35-6.

Trace Windsor was a passing and rushing force as South Shelby bested Schuyler County.

Craig Smith threw for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 8-11 with 0 interceptions.

Brendan Watts was the best receiver in the league this week as Macon topped the Pirates. Watts tallied 5 receptions for 128 yards. Joe Lewis helped Macon's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 29 yards.

Pete Claas' team's Smith and Watts have formed a dream team this season, leading Clarence Cannon in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Smith has thrown for 1,662 yards this season, while Watts has 43 catches for 997 yards. The Cardinals' Windsor leads the league in rushing yards with 1,199.

The Tigers' Watts is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 3 receiving yards against Centralia to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has garnered 43 catches for 997 yards.

The Panthers are in second place, while Macon is in third place.

Palmyra took down the Tigers 57-2 last week, the largest margin of any game. Josh Hultz ran for 111 yards during the win.
