Basketball Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Highland Park Scots

Newman Smith hasn't had much luck against Highland Park recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Newman Smith Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Park Scots at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Newman Smith turned things around against Reedy on Tuesday. They managed a 48-43 win over the Lions. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Trojans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Lions are ranked 178th).

Meanwhile, Highland Park came tearing into Tuesday's match with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past the Cougars with a 36-31 win.

Highland Park pushed their record up to 20-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points per game. As for Newman Smith, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-10.

Newman Smith was dealt a bruising 70-19 defeat at the hands of Highland Park in their previous meeting on January 7th. Can Newman Smith avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
