Baseball Recap: Westfield Starts Season with Win Against Franklin Central

Westfield had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Franklin Central Flashes by a score of 6-1. That's more bragging rights for the Shamrocks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jackson Blevins looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Nick Fero was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Matt Drozlek was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Franklin Central's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Westfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Flashes: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
