Recap: Austin Panthers vs. Riverside Rangers
After flying high against the San Elizario Eagles two weeks ago, The Austin Panthers came back down to earth. Austin took a 29-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Riverside on Friday. Austin gained 145 more yards on the day, but it was Riverside that made the best of use of them.
When it comes to explaining why Austin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ruben Bustillos. Despite the final result, he rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Oscar Flores was another key contributor, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Riverside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Derek Vasquez out in front who threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Carlos Rojas III also helped out with an impressive 89 receiving yards.
Austin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Riverside, the victory was the third in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Bowie the next time they take the field. Austin will host Bowie at 0:00 a.m. on Friday, while Riverside will head out to face them at 0:00 a.m. on November 3rd.
