Basketball Game Preview: Fossil Ridge SaberCats vs. Chaparral Wolverines

The Fossil Ridge SaberCats will be taking part in a tournament against the Chaparral Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fossil Ridge is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since January 23rd on Wednesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 57-30 win over Grandview. The SaberCats pushed the score to 47-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wolves cut but never quite recovered from.

Fossil Ridge found their leader in sophomore Jaimeson Peterson, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Walker, who posted eight points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Chaparral put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 73-59 victory over Broomfield.

Chaparral found their leader in sophomore Christian Williams, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 26 points and five rebounds. The game was Williams' ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Howery, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.

Chaparral's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Fossil Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fossil Ridge has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Fossil Ridge beat Chaparral 60-51 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fossil Ridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
