Basketball Recap: Sonora Skates Past Hughson with Ease

Sonora waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Hughson Huskies, posting a 78-49 win. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Sonora's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Otterson, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 18 rebounds. Those 18 boards gave Otterson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Ingalls, who went 7 for 11 en route to 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Sonora was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Hughson saw an underclassman step up: freshman Karam Kang went 8 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points. Jackson Gehrke was another key player, going 6 for 9 en route to 13 points.

Sonora's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Hughson, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sonora will face off against Ripon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ripon will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Sonora surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hughson, they will challenge Orestimba at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hughson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.
