Baseball Recap: Mineola's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Mineola had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Eustace Bulldogs 14-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Matthew Ballew was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run over four innings pitched. Ballew was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mineola's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Carson Threlkeld was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Beckham Bowker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs.

Mineola's victory bumped their record up to 10-8-1. As for Eustace, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-17.

Mineola will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
