Volleyball Game Preview: Dwyer Panthers vs. Wellington Wolverines

The Dwyer Panthers will take on the Wellington Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Dwyer had taken Cardinal Newman down for five straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Panthers came up short against the Crusaders, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Crusaders since September 27, 2017.

Dwyer was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Cardinal Newman work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 26-24, 25-18.

Dwyer's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Payton Lotz, who had 13 digs and four assists, and Victoria Addazio, who had 11 assists and four digs.

Meanwhile, Wellington entered their tilt with Palm Beach Gardens on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 3-0 win.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-21, 25-9.

Wellington's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Dwyer, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.

Dwyer was able to grind out a solid win over Wellington in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, winning 3-1. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
