Basketball Preview: Saxony Lutheran Crusaders vs. Festus Tigers
Having just played yesterday, the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders will get right back to it and host the Festus Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on February 6th. Festus took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Saxony Lutheran, who comes in off a win.
Saxony Lutheran put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Poplar Bluff 72-41 at home. The victory was just what Saxony Lutheran needed coming off of a 66-37 defeat in their prior match.
Rebecca Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 26 points along with seven assists and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Adams, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Festus ended up a good deal behind the Hawks on Thursday and lost 68-54. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Festus in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now lost four in a row.
Saxony Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Festus, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.
Saxony Lutheran beat the Tigers 51-41 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Saxony Lutheran repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
