Basketball Recap: LKY Piles Up the Points Against Southern

LKY's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 60-30 victory over the Southern Trojans. The Saints have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Leading LKY to victory were Hannah Simmon and Courtney Simmon. Hannah went 13 of 27 en route to 30 points, while Courtney dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Hannah has scored at least a third of LKY's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Mattingly, who posted seven points along with five assists and five steals.

LKY smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

LKY is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 38.7 points. As for Southern, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

LKY will be playing in front of their home fans against Bluegrass United at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. LKY is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season. As for Southern, they and Fairdale will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
