Basketball Recap: Hillside Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Charlottesville, Hillside was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 44-34 win over the Felton Grove Galaxy.

Hillside found their leader in freshman Samiyah Cunningham, who posted 17 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cunningham has scored at least a third of the Hornets' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kortnee Smith, who scored four points and five boards.

Despite the defeat, Felton Grove had strong showings from London Draughn, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds, and Miyah Beverly, who earned nine points and three steals. With that strong performance, Draughn is now averaging an impressive 8.5 boards per game.

Hillside now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Felton Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Hillside and Riverside-Durham, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on January 6th. The contest will give the Hornets their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Felton Grove, they will square off against Lee County at 6:00 p.m. on January 7th.
