Football Game Preview: New Canaan Rams vs. Darien Blue Wave + How To Watch

New Canaan has gone 8-2 against Darien recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 10:00 a.m. New Canaan will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Friday, New Canaan humbled Trumbull with a 42-13 victory. Considering the Rams have won seven contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Henry Stein continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 188 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries. Those 188 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Hoffman, who threw for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

New Canaan's run defense was locked in: Trumbull could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Mikey Hiraman for the heroic effort on defense: he. New Canaan's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.8 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 8.1 on average over their last five games.

New Canaan's defense didn't let Caleb Wuchiski, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Hiraman and Grayson Ladley, who racked up all five sacks between them. Ladley also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six.

Meanwhile, Darien faced Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Blue Wave wound up with the same score they had in their last game (35-14), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Darien's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for New Canaan, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.

New Canaan strolled past Darien in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 35-21. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Blue Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
