Basketball Recap: Forest Park Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Forest Park hadn't done well against Poly recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Forest Park Foresters snuck past the Poly Engineers with a 53-49 victory. Given the Foresters' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Engineers are ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Forest Park was led to victory by MCKENZIE FITZGERALD and KHLOE STEWART. FITZGERALD posted 19 points, while STEWART dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 boards. FITZGERALD continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was INDIA WATKINS, who put up nine points.

Poly lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being London Elliot, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Alexis Smothers was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Forest Park's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.9 points per game. As for Poly, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Forest Park will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coppin Academy at 3:45 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Poly and Oxon Hill will round out the year against one another at at 3:00 p.m. on December 27th.
