Preview: Fivay Falcons vs. Gulf Buccaneers
Two dominant backs in Jamarian Miller and Antonio Muniz are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fivay Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Gulf Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Fivay's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games.
Last Friday, Fivay blew past Citrus, posting a 35-6 win at home. With Fivay ahead 21-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
It was another big night for Miller, who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Miller is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Samuel Monfre also helped out with an impressive 85 receiving yards.
Fivay's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB nine times. The heavy lifting was done by Khyrii Everett and Sal Bonacasa who racked up six sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Gulf didn't have too much trouble with Lecanto at home on Friday as they won 35-18. The victory was just what Gulf needed coming off of a 49-28 defeat in their prior matchup.
Muniz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 300 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. Muniz's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards. Another player making a difference was Jaydn Wood, who threw for 139 yards and a touchdown while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Fivay to 5-2 and Gulf to 4-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Fivay has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Gulf struggles in that department as they've been even better at 211.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Fivay took a serious blow against Gulf when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 39-0. Can Fivay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
