Volleyball Recap: Thunderbird Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Thunderbird can now relate to. They lost 3-0 to the Flagstaff Eagles on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

While Thunderbird was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Flagstaff's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-8, 25-11, 25-22.

Sophia Frandsen paced Thunderbird's offense, picking up eight kills. Frandsen got some help from Cecelia Bouchard and her 20 assists. Finally, Adele Jennings kept Thunderbird's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Flagstaff's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nidaya Nez led the charge by getting 15 digs. Brynn Hagerman was another key player, getting 15 digs and two aces.

Thunderbird's loss dropped their record down to 24-13. As for Flagstaff, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 33-6.

Thunderbird does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Flagstaff, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Mica Mountain on the 10th.
