Basketball Recap: Mallard Creek's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mallard Creek put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Concord Academy Eagles with a sharp 70-49 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mavericks also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2015.

Kiara Anderson was a one-woman wrecking crew as she went 8-for-14 en route to 21 points. Jazmeen Stone was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Mallard Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, Concord Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jada Powell shot 50% from the field on her way to 18 points and five boards. Powell also set a new season-high mark in three-point shooting accuracy with 57%. Another player making a difference was Justice Alexander, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Mallard Creek's record now sits at 3-0. As for Concord Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Mallard Creek is taking a road trip to square off against Myers Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Concord Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-48 win against Charlotte Latin on the 24th.
