Two dominant signal callers in Bradley Smith and Kyler Monk are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Delta Academy Raiders will face off against the Claiborne Academy Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Delta Academy will be strutting in after a win while Claiborne Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
Delta Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: North Sunflower Academy, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Delta Academy was ranked 17th). The Raiders took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 68-14 victory over the Rebels. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Delta Academy can attribute much of their success to Bailey Seymore, who gained 182 total yards and two touchdowns, and Chaderious Boclair, who rushed for 148 yards and two TDs. Boclair was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Delta Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 316 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September.
Despite a strong season so far, Claiborne Academy has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They had to suffer through a 68-28 loss at the hands of River Oaks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Rebels have suffered since November 15, 2024.
Despite the defeat, Claiborne Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nate Smith picked up 136 receiving yards and three scores.
Delta Academy's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-8. As for Claiborne Academy, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Delta Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 222.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Claiborne Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 193.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
