Baseball Game Preview: Sturgeon Bay Clippers vs. Luxemburg-Casco Spartans

Sturgeon Bay is 1-7 against Luxemburg-Casco since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Clippers will take on the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Sturgeon Bay proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Algoma 2-1. The Clippers haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Ethan Kratcha spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sturgeon Bay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Siggy Hansen, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That run was Hansen's first of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Luxemburg-Casco, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Denmark 7-6 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The team relied heavily on Eli Derenne, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

The win got Sturgeon Bay back to even at 5-5. As for Luxemburg-Casco, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
