Can't Touch This
Pine-Richland got a 42 - 7 win over Central Catholic last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Philip Jurkovec. Jurkovec tossed the ball for 276 yards and three TDs. In fact, our algorithms singled out Jurkovec as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Quaker Valley (2nd in the power rankings) and Aliquippa (3rd) did not disappoint. Quaker Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Aliquippa, sneaking past 2 - 0. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Quaker Valley after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
Movin on Up
Clarion Area managed to bank 276 more yards than its opponent Chestnut Ridge last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Clarion Area beat Chestnut Ridge 20 - 14. Senior Colton Rapp deserves a lot of the credit as he rushed for 95 yards and three touchdowns. The success catapulted Clarion Area 11 spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
No Stoppin 'Em
51. That was the combined point total for Fairmont Senior and Wayne when they went head to head last week, and it set the benchmark for all power ranking teams. The final score between Fairmont Senior and Wayne was a 43 - 8 blowout in Fairmont Senior's favor. The win boosted Fairmont Senior a satisfying ten spots in the power rankings.
