Softball Recap: Long Beach Comes Up Short

Long Beach had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-19 to make it seven. They fell just short of the West Harrison Hurricanes by a score of 6-4. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-2 defeat back in February.

As for West Harrison, the win snapped their losing streak at 15 games and leaves them with a 7-19 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since February 28th.

For West Harrison's part, Maddy Tarver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, West Harrison saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyshja Maurcie, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Graysee Necaise was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Long Beach will head out to face off against Pascagoula at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for West Harrison, they will square off against Purvis at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
