Football Recap: Melba Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tyce Johnson and Rhett Franklin + How To Watch

Melba was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost to the Weiser Wolverines at home by a 32-14 margin. The Mustangs lost against the Wolverines in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-22 score last time.

Melba's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Rhett Franklin, who gained 109 total yards and a touchdown, and Tyce Johnson, who threw for 119 yards and a pair of TDs.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Cole Ingle and Brendan Youngberg. Ingle rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown while Youngberg rushed for 12 yards and a pair of scores. Youngberg also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending one pass.

Melba's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Weiser, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Looking ahead, Melba is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Declo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 25.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Weiser, they will host Pendleton/Nixyaawii Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
