Baseball Recap: University Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

University had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Waco Lions as they made off with a 20-2 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-5 on Tuesday.

Matt Turrubiartez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Carlos Perez and Armando Cervantez did most of the damage at the plate: Perez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Cervantez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Cervantez a new career-high. Asa Sutton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

University hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waco struck out 11 times.

University's record is now 15-8. As for Waco, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.

Looking ahead, University will welcome Lake Belton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Waco, they will head out on the road to face off against Belton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
