Softball Game Preview: El Segundo Eagles vs. Crescenta Valley Falcons

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when El Segundo Eagles duke it out with Crescenta Valley Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. El Segundo will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

El Segundo is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Mater Dei, who was ranked 20th at the time (El Segundo was ranked 19th). El Segundo beat Mater Dei on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2.

Jacy Lindsay tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sienna Mayer and Carter Cswaykus did most of the damage at the plate: Mayer scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3, while Cswaykus went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Mayer has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlene Ramos, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Crescenta Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Upland by a score of 8-7.

Megumi Ono made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Even though they lost, Crescenta Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

El Segundo pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Crescenta Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. El Segundo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Crescenta Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs.
