Baseball Recap: Lafayette Christian Snags 11th Win in Last 13 Games

Lafayette Christian barely beat Ezekiel Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Knights 16-2 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Josiah Hughes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Lafayette Christian let Landon Childree and Dustin Ogle run wild. Childree got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Ogle scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. What's more, Ogle posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Logan Childree was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Lafayette Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ezekiel Academy only posted an OBP of .417.

Lafayette Christian is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ezekiel Academy, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lafayette Christian will challenge Troup County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ezekiel Academy, they will take on Heritage Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
