Football Recap: Weld Central Starts Season with Win Against Bennett + How To Watch

Weld Central took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Bennett Tigers, posting a 55-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Rebels, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Weld Central was led to victory by Luke Witzel and Braden Schellenberg. Witzel rushed for 97 yards and one score on only six carries, while Schellenberg rushed for 81 yards and one TD on only nine carries. Witzel's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Weld Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 339 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Weld Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Memo Jaquez and Aiden Granier. Granier got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Coming up, Weld Central is headed away from home for the first time to take on Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bennett, they will welcome Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
