Football Recap: Richland Royals vs. Aledo Bearcats

After flying high against Granbury last Friday, Richland came back down to earth. The Richland Royals took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aledo Bearcats on Friday. The Royals lost against the Bearcats in their previous head to head back in December of 2017, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 43-7 score last time.

Several Royals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deon Jones, who picked up 164 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jones showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 58 yards. Hunter Moreno was in the mix as well, providing Richland with three touchdowns.

Richland wouldn't let Aledo keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Richland can thank Sean Wright and Carlos Davis for forcing both of them. Wright has been hot recently, having also posted nine or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Roddrick Roberts was another major factor on D, making 18 total tackles.

It was another big night for Raycine Guillory Jr, who rushed for 245 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 35 receiving yards and a touchdown for Aledo. With that strong performance, Guillory Jr is now averaging an impressive 2.2 rushing touchdowns per game. Another player making a difference was Gavin Beard, who threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns.

Richland's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Aledo, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Azle the next time they take the field. Aledo will head out to face Azle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Richland will host them at 7:00 p.m. on November 8th.
