The Knippa Crushers will square off against the New Braunfels Christian Academy Wildcats at 2:45 p.m. on Friday. Knippa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Knippa took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Menard 9-8. While the Crushers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-16-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Knippa let Cameron S and Jackson S run wild. Cameron went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI, while Jackson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Cameron is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Johnny R was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, New Braunfels Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Faith Academy on Friday, taking the game 4-1.
David Shoup was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Shoup was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Kahlig, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Owen Wells, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.
New Braunfels Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Knippa pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Braunfels Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Knippa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .599. However, it's not like New Braunfels Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
