Softball Recap: Whiting Comes Up Short

Whiting extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-7 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Griffith Panthers. The Oilers were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Whiting saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordyn Rivera, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Griffith, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Griffith's side, Brylie Bridges and Victoria Nudo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bridges tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Nudo pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Bridges went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Nudo went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Nudo has posted over her last 11 matchups.

In other batting news, Morgan Von Ogden was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Cheyanne Fant also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

While Whiting had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
