Basketball Game Preview: Anthem Prep Eagles vs. Mayer Wildcats

The Anthem Prep Eagles and the Mayer Wildcats will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Anthem Prep and four for Mayer.

On Tuesday, Anthem Prep had to suffer through a 61-16 loss at the hands of Scottsdale Preparatory Academy. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Spartans are ranked 105th).

Meanwhile, Mayer lost 49-27 to Grand Canyon on Tuesday.

Anthem Prep now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Mayer, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.

Anthem Prep couldn't quite finish off Mayer in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 34-31. Can Anthem Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
