Softball Recap: Bourgeois Takes a Loss

Bourgeois extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 13-17. They lost 7-1 to the Covenant Christian Academy Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 back in March.

As for Covenant Christian Academy, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Covenant Christian Academy's part, Madison Verrett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Verrett has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Abbey Henry was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Abbigake Glynn was another key player, earning three runs and three stolen bases.

Coming up, Bourgeois will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against New Iberia at 4:30 p.m. The Braves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. Covenant Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
