Softball Game Preview: Mount Notre Dame vs. Troy Trojans

Mount Notre Dame will face off against the Troy Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Notre Dame will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Mount Notre Dame is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Anderson. Mount Notre Dame might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Audrey Gildea spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, McKenna Manley and Kat Zielinski did most of the damage at the plate: Manley went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI, while Zielinski went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave Manley a new career-high. Savanna Gault was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Mount Notre Dame was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Troy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They skirted past Miamisburg 9-7.

Mount Notre Dame's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Troy, their win bumped their record up to 21-7.
