Softball Recap: Aucilla Christian Comes Up Short at Home Against St. John Paul II

Aucilla Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the St. John Paul II Panthers by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Makayla Kelly was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Megan Wellman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February of 2024.

The victory got St. John Paul II back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Aucilla Christian will face off against Rickards at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. John Paul II, they will host FAMU DRS at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. St. John Paul II is facing FAMU DRS at the right time seeing as FAMU DRS is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
