Softball Recap: Wickliffe Comes Up Short

After flying high against Chagrin Falls on Monday, Wickliffe came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Crestwood Red Devils by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Devils earlier this season, when they won 7-2.

Leigha Blazetic put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Audrey Musgrave made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Wickliffe's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Crestwood, their record is now 3-6.

Wickliffe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 20-11 loss against South on the 18th. Crestwood has also already played their next matchup (against Garfield), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
