Football Recap: Sterling Starts off Right with Win over Valley

Sterling took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Valley Vikings with points to spare, taking the game 49-32. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Memphis Dempcy was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 46 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. Braydon Evans was another key player, gaining 137 total yards and two touchdowns.

Sterling didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Valley to a completion percentage of just 33.3%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Hunter Hershfeldt, RJ Cole, and Connor Gemaelich, who each logged one passes deflected. Sterling wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 66.7%.

Looking ahead, Sterling is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Lamar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Weld Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
