Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates vs. Byers Bulldogs
After flying high against the Calhan Bulldogs last Saturday, the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates came back down to earth. Genoa-Hugo/Karval was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 39-38 to Byers. Genoa-Hugo/Karval was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Byers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rhegan Sitzman, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kazlei Vaughn, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Byers, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Merino at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Merino is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Byers, they will head out on the road to challenge Flagler at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Flagler presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Byers in Colorado (Flagler is ranked 104th, while Byers is ranked 228th).
