Basketball Recap: CJ Harden's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Portal over Savannah

If Portal was riding high fresh off their 59-35 takedown of Metter last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Portal Panthers lost 78-57 to the Savannah Bluejackets on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Bluejackets are ranked 70th).

Portal's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was CJ Harden, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Mcqueen, who had 12 points and eight boards.

Maki Joyner was his usual excellent self, putting up 26 points and seven rebounds for Savannah. Another player making a difference was Deshawn Davis, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards.

Portal's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Savannah, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Portal does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Savannah, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-45 victory against Bryan County on the 8th.
