Volleyball Recap: Loretto Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Loretto and Summertown squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Loretto had to settle for second. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 3-0. The Mustangs have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Mallory Corbin paced Loretto's offense, picking up seven kills. Corbin got some help from Tate Newton and her 11 assists.

Leading Summertown to victory were Zoei Bonner and Amelia Emerson. Bonner had 33 assists and eight digs, while Emerson had 21 kills and three aces. Emerson is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 43 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Izzy Garland, who had seven kills, seven digs, and two aces.

Loretto's loss dropped their record down to 20-26. As for Summertown, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 38-8.

Looking ahead, Loretto will challenge Merrol Hyde Magnet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Summertown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
