Westridge extended their losing streak to ten on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-12-1 in the process. They lost 17-5 to the Providence Pioneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.
Lilah Rangel was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those doubles were her first of the season.
As for Providence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games.
On Providence's side, Madelynn Watts made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Watts has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Providence let Delailah Lopez and Gloria Galindo run wild. Lopez went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Galindo went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Siena Hartman, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Coming up, Westridge will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mayfield at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cubs have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Providence, they are taking a road trip to challenge Rio Hondo Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Kares will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight.
